They are often sold very young, with No Documents and without any Vaccination Protection.
Most vets insist kittens are 8/9 weeks old before the 1st vaccination and 11/12 weeks old for the 2nd.

             * Questions to ask a good cat breeder *

  • Why do you breed cats? What got you into breeding cats?

  • A good cat breeder will be breeding for their love of the hobby and for their chosen breed. They should be able to bore you to death about all the things they love about their cats and their kittens! You will learn a lot about a person by listening to their reasons for breeding.

  • Do you breed any other breeds of cat?

  • Beware of a breeder that breeds more than two different breeds of cats. A cat breeder that churns out lots of different kittens all year round tend not to be a good cat breeder.

  • Can I see the mother and father of the kittens?

  • A good cat breeder should want you to come to their home to see their kittens with their mother. Many cat breeders do not own the father of the kittens so it is not always possible for you to see him. If they do own the father of the kittens then they should be happy for you to see him and his living quarters. If a breeder does not want you to see their home or the mother of the kittens then beware. This is not a good cat breeder.

  • Do you show your cats?

  • A reputable cat breeder should be very proud of their cats and happy to talk about their show successes and show you their rosettes. If a breeder seems more interested in pressuring you into buying a kitten than talking about their precious pets then beware!

  • What food do you feed your kittens?

  • A good breeder should be very specific about what they feed their kittens. As a good breeder is not interested in making a profit then they should be fed the very best that a breeder can afford.

Most of assessing whether a breeder is a good one is common sense.

Be observant and see whether the breeder has friendly, loving cats that are clearly part of the family.

If a breeder is proud of their cats and clearly loves them it should be easy to see.

Remember taking the time to assess breeders and to find a good one will be worth it in the long run.

If the cattery doesn't look right, smell right or feel right then WALK AWAY

and if a kitten is priced too good to be true then it usually is…
